Marc Gunn is an extraordinary musician I ran across when he started the Renaissance Festival Music Podcast. Since then, I find much appreciation of his Autoharp and Humor.

History

From Wikipedia:
In 1963, Los Angeles schoolteacher Phyllis Patterson held a very small version of the faire as a class activity, in the backyard of her Laurel Canyon home in the Hollywood Hills. On May 11th and 12th of that year, Phyllis and her husband Ron, presented the first Renaissance Pleasure Faire as a one-weekend fundraiser for radio station KPFK, drawing some 8,000 people. For many years thereafter, the Renaissance Pleasure Faire of Southern California (RPFS) was held in the spring at the Paramount Ranch located in Agoura, CA, partaking of the rich lore and age-old customs of English springtime markets and "Maying" customs.

Garb and Costuming

The Sempstress.org has many interesting little tips and tricks buried in her site. An Excerpt from The Floppy Flat Cap:
We're going to seal the edge by applying thin single fold bias tape. The most important thing to know about applying this stuff is that the fold is slightly offset -- one edge actually sticks out past the other. You want to put the long side down, so that you are looking at the shorter side while you sew. This radically increases the odds that you will succeed in sewing down both sides of the tape at once, instead of sewing the side on top and having the bottom side sewn intermittantly or not at all.
